What is EM?
EM stands for Effective Micro-organisms. EM is a mixed culture of beneficial, naturally-occurring micro-organisms mostly used or found in foods. EM is made up of 3 main genera:phototrophic bacteris, lactic acid bacteria and yeast. These effective Micro-organisms secrete beneficial substances such as vitamins, organic acids, chelated minerals and antioxidants when in contact with organic matter.

EM technolgy was developed 25 years ago by Dr. Teruo Higa, a professor at the University of the Ryukyus in Okinawa, Japan. EM

was originally developed as an alternative for agricultural chemicals. Today development broadens to include Sustainable agriculture, Animal husbandry, Aquaculture, Recycling, Waste management, Water treatment, Household usage and health promoting products.

EM is produced in over 50 countries worldwide. EM is a Probiotic and not a fertilizer, desinfectant or antibiotic. It is not a medicine, nor is it genetically modified or pathogenic.

EM Philosophy
Professor Teruo Higa distances himself from the uncompromising competition going on in the world today. According to him this competition has a negative effect on issues of world peace, health and the environment. This means that conditions are ripe for war, food shortages and health problems to take place.

Dr. Higa argues in favour of solidarity, peaceful co-existence and shared wealth. In short he calls for more balance in the world. His ideas have been published in the books "An Earth Saving Revolution" volumes 1 and 2.
